This couple and their family warmed our entire hearts unexpectedly. Here’s the story… Ericka contacted us to capture her son’s 1st birthday party. What she didn’t tell us was the emotional story connected to this event. The couple chose the Owings Mills Fire Department to celebrate their sons birthday and invited friends and family from New York, New Jersey and different parts of Maryland.
Before the party got started, the couple and baby went up to the Fire Truck Station for a few Family Portraits. Just some intimate photos with just the two of them. The couple shared with us how blessed they were to have him and as we all know every single life is a miracle and a gift. We could tell from the love shared with this young boy that he was not a gift taken for granted. As we got to know Ericka and James more and more, we shared with them that we were now expecting a little one of our own. They were the first client we shared this news with and although we just met they were overjoyed for us!
The couple chose to celebrate at a fire station because they are big advocates of firefighters. Ericka and her family suffered a tragic loss due to fire and ever since she has been a supporter of those who have the ability to save lives in an unexpected and traumatic situation such as a fire. She lost two monumental people in her life at the same time due to house fire. We all know how much it hurts to lose someone unexpectedly and how hard it is find courage in a dark place but she (and her family) realized how strong they all are and how legends live on throughout us. She shared this story with her friends near the end of the party and bought the whole room to tears! But for good reason, now I bet we all give a just a little more respect to those who risk their lives to save strangers.
One of the great things about hosting your child’s birthday party is the interactive learning experience that inevitably happens. The firefighters came down to the party room to take the guests up to see the fire trucks up close and personal. They explained the functions of different parts of the vehicle and allowed the kids to crawl all through the cockpit and ask questions regarding their routine. One fireman even showed us how fast he could put on his entire uniform (the kids really loved that part and cheered him on from the sideline).
Back to the party, everything was all set for the kids! The had pizza and Firehouse Subs (how fitting)! Along with being surrounded by Fire-inspired decor; there was a cake shaped like a little yellow firetruck (from Fresh Bakery) with matching square cupcakes that resembled fire. The entire space was decorated in red and yellow, and even all the snacks provided were in red and yellow packaging. Very smartly done!
I would say if your planning a Fireman themed birthday party for a little one, use this as inspiration. Everywhere we turned, you could see the thought and detail that was invested to make this day so special.
We also created a small highlight video of our time with this family that you can see below.
