A common question we receive when planning Family Photography Sessions is…
Where should we have our family session?
We have a list of suggested and recommended locations that we send to all of our clients but if you found this blog without booking yet we can still offer some great advice!
The very best place where you should have your family session is somewhere easy that you can have all of your desired family members attend. This may sound like lazy advice but for those of us who have toddlers this definitely needs to be said lol Our friends, The Austins, opted to have their family session at home, right in the backyard. This made it very easy for their toddler to not only feel comfortable at home but just steps away from snacks and her favorite toys. This session was very easy for little Emily as it just felt like another fun time outside.
Comfort aside, we suggest that our clients not only choose a good location for their shoot but also a good time. We love shooting at Golden Hour, which is an hour or 2 before Sunset or an hour or 2 after Sunrise. In this case, the family chose sunset. This allows beautiful and even lighting for all skin tones involved. Shooting at golden hour always gives a dreamy effect that memories are made of.
Lastly, for family sessions we recommend choosing a place that has sentimental value to you as a family. This helps tie more memories to your photos when you look back on them five, ten or twenty years from now. Marcus and Aisha will look back on these photos and remember their old backyard and all the memories they had there besides taking photos with us :) And that in itself is a beautiful keepsake.
We hope this blog has been helpful for those planning a family session. We love seeing our couples beyond their wedding day so if you’d like to plan your family session with us soon, please message us at hello@megapixelsmedia.com.
