So we all know the main point of a First Look is for the couple to see each other before the actual ceremony. It’s not everyone’s cup of tea but for those who choose to do it, they find that the rest of the day is a lot less stressful and makes both the Bride and Groom a lot less anxious. A First Look gives the bride and groom some alone time with each other before they meet at the end of the aisle. Most couples don’t realize this but you’re usually not alone with your loved one until the very end of the day, so this little time before the ceremony gives you some intimate time just before all the craziness of the day begins. This was certainly the case for Mary Beth and Brett on their wedding day at Main Street Ballroom.
They had their ceremony and reception all in one location (Main Street Ballroom) so once Mary Beth was done getting ready in the Bridal Suite, she was able to walk on out see the venue decorated to her liking and we placed Brett in a position where she could just walk right up to him to tap him on the shoulder signaling him to turn around so that they could meet each other eye-to-eye an hour before their ceremony. Both were thrilled and elated to see each other and their friends and family cheered them on from behind as they prepared celebratory shots on a shotski!
So one of the main questions that we get as wedding photographers regarding First Looks is “ What do we do afterwards?” Well, it differs from couple to couple depending on their timeline but here are our suggestions…
After the First Look…
Celebrate with your friends and family. These makes for some great candid moments that are not saturated with inauthenticity.
Get your Family Formal Photos Out of the Way! So after the ceremony You don’t have to worry about them. Its all already done. You can even enjoy your cocktail hour with you guests if you’d like to.
Take your Bridal Party to a cool location for some Bridal Party Photos that are a little bit out of the ordinary.
Take your loved one on a nice romantic stroll around the venue for some beautiful photos. If you time this right like we did you can catch some beautiful lighting.
Exchange sentimental gifts or lettrers with each other or with the bridal party.
Get some last minute make-up touch-ups before the ceremony.
