Some of the greatest love stories are written on the campuses of historically Black colleges and universities
and Hampton University is no exception. I may be a little biased (it’s where my own parents met), but I wholeheartedly believe there’s something sacred about the love nurtured in those halls.
Evanthe and Warren’s story began at Hampton and continues to unfold in the most beautiful ways. One of their most memorable chapters came together on a radiant spring day at Josephine Butler Parks Center in Washington, D.C.—an architectural gem nestled beside Meridian Hill Park. With sweeping staircases, ornate fireplaces, and sun-drenched rooms steeped in history, this venue is perfect for couples looking to blend intimacy, culture, and timeless charm.
The day began at the Omni Shoreham Hotel, where Evanthe shared a blissfully tearful first look with her father—one of those quiet, emotional moments that will echo for years to come. She then joined her radiant bride-crew, all dressed in emerald green suits, for a limo ride to the venue.
Warren and his groom-crew were already on site, buttoning grey suits with emerald accents and soaking in the anticipation. Before the ceremony, we arranged a private "first touch" for the couple—a quiet, hand-held moment where they exchanged love letters just beyond each other’s view.
Upstairs, with sunlight pouring in through tall windows, Evanthe and Warren exchanged vows and rings before sealing their marriage with a kiss and a joyful jump over the broom—an African-American tradition honoring love, legacy, and new beginnings.
After family portraits and a few timeless images on the venue’s iconic red steps, it was time to celebrate.
And what a celebration it was.
Guests were welcomed into an elegant brunch reception complete with gourmet shrimp and grits, pancakes, eggs, and thick-cut bacon—plus bottomless mimosas and espresso martinis to keep the party in full swing. The atmosphere was electric yet full of heart, as laughter and music filled the air.
Before the celebration wrapped, all the Hampton University alumni gathered for a group photo—a beautiful reminder that community and legacy walk hand-in-hand with love.
It was an absolute joy to document this story. Evanthe and Warren, thank you for allowing us to witness the sacred start of your new chapter. Here's to love that grows stronger with time, and to the memories that hold it all together.
