Celebrating 50 in Style
Who says your birthday portraits have to be taken in a studio? Sometimes the perfect backdrop is a place that inspires you.
When Kim reached out about celebrating her 50th birthday with a portrait session, she already had a location in mind: The Empanada Lady in Baltimore, Maryland.
After seeing the wedding styled shoot we photographed there, Kim fell in love with the restaurant's eclectic atmosphere, vibrant colors, and one-of-a-kind energy. She told us she'd never seen anything quite like it in the DMV and wondered if we could create her birthday portraits there.
Of course, we had to ask!
When I reached out to the restaurant's owner, Elisa, she loved the idea of Kim choosing a space she considers her sanctuary. Long before The Empanada Lady had a storefront, Elisa was pouring her heart into feeding and supporting her community. Today, her beautiful restaurant near Baltimore's Inner Harbor is a reflection of that same love, creativity, and dedication.
And the connection felt even more special because Kim is a culinary artist herself, the creative talent behind Kakes by Kim.
For her 50th birthday photoshoot in Baltimore, Kim brought two beautiful outfits that complemented the restaurant's bold personality. Garrett and I took care of the rest, guiding her through poses and shaping the light to make sure she felt every bit as beautiful as she looked.
We began at the bar before making our way into the heart of the restaurant, where a stunning oversized mural created the perfect backdrop for her portraits.
What I loved most was that Kim chose a place that genuinely inspired her. Her birthday session wasn't just about turning 50. It was about celebrating herself, her creativity, and this beautiful chapter of life in a space that felt just as vibrant as she is.
Happy 50th Birthday, Kim! Thank you for trusting us to bring your vision to life. It was an absolute pleasure celebrating you! 🤎
Love Deeply,
