Your headshot should look like you, but more importantly, it should represent who you are and what your brand stands for.
So, how often should you update your professional headshots?
I typically recommend refreshing your headshots every 1–2 years, or whenever you experience a significant change in your appearance, career, or brand. Starting a new business, rebranding, or stepping into a new chapter professionally? Those are all perfect reasons to get back in front of the camera!
Recently, I had the pleasure of photographing a client who was starting her business with a clean slate. Her brand is rooted in empowerment and organization, so we wanted her portraits to reflect exactly that.
She chose a clean white studio backdrop and wore her brand colors, creating professional images that not only pop on her website but also complement her business's visual identity.
And because building a business comes with a busy schedule, we planned her studio portrait session on a Tuesday that worked best for her. One of the things I love about being a full-time photographer is having the flexibility to accommodate my clients and make the experience as convenient as possible.
Your professional headshots are often someone's first introduction to you and your business. They should feel current, authentic, and aligned with the story you're telling.
Whether you're launching something new or simply ready for a refresh, let's create portraits that reflect the professional you are today and the brand you're building for tomorrow.
