This blog post is way overdue, yea…we know lol If you follow us on Social Media, you already know and it’s not quite an announcement but we wanted to take some time to talk about it right here on the blog and why it took so long to post.
So after I scheduled a date to resign from my corporate job of 7 years but before I actually put in my 2 weeks notice, We found out that I was expecting. It took us COMPLETELY by surprise! But then it all started to make sense…all the cravings, the emotions, and slight body changes were for a reason. So we had a big decision to make, do I continue with the long dreamt of plan of become a full-time photographer or do I stick to a secure and predictable 9-5 senior position at reputable health care facility? After all, I had more than just myself to think of now…I’m going to be very honest, with all things considered, it was not an easy decision to make at the time (especially knowing how reluctant some people are to hire a photographer who’s pregnant). I struggled with doubt, anxiety and worst of all (I hate even saying this…) Fear. It put my mind in a place where I normally refuse for it to go!
I remember long and sometimes aggravating talks with Garrett as my time slowly dwindled down to make a real-life decision. As if the Holidays aren’t stressful enough, we decided in advance that this would be the time to leave my job and change everything. To start living the life that I always wanted. The one that talked about excitedly only to my closest friends and clients. Welp *spoiler alert* we stuck to plan! I put in my 2 weeks notice and it was AMAAZINGG! I probably would have enjoyed my last 2 weeks even more if I wasn’t so tired from the 1st trimester combined with preparing an entire department to run without me and crushing the Weddingpacolypse that happened at the end of the year. while people were congratulating me on making my world shift I wanted to tell them the bigger news but really wanted to wait until it became more concrete, so we kept our little secret to ourselves.
On our 5 year Wedding Anniversary, we were surprised with a Anniversary Party and due to being so shocked we turned the surprise around on them and spilled the beans lol All of our family starting asking the same questions we started asking months ago and then started to confess “I thought you were starting to look a little thick.” and all my close friends know getting called “Thick” by Garrett is one of my favorite things. So I knew I wanted to use that Idea for whenever we decided to take photos.
As the new year began, we started to plan How we wanted to announce this to everyone outside of who we consider family…We remembered this cool alley we found with a Couple during December’s Weddingpacolypse and thought that we be the perfect location! We also wanted to be very incognito (like our whole pregnancy for the past 3 months) so we wore all black (kinda) and the day before I hand-wrote on my black leather jacket “Gettin Thick” to make it a little more personable.
Garrett’s brother did us the awesome favor of shooting us in the rain and cold and we couldn’t have been more happy to have and share these photos with everyone :) We look forward to sharing more from this journey as time progresses!
