When Disney’s The Lion King National Tour made its highly anticipated stop in Baltimore, Maryland, they partnered with us (Megapixels Media) to document a night unlike any other—HBCU & Divine Nine Night. Held on the final night of Black History Month, this event was more than just a celebration; it was a powerful tribute to culture, legacy, and the magic of storytelling.
A Grand Welcome at the M&T Bank Exchange
The evening kicked off with an elegant reception at the M&T Bank Exchange, where guests were warmly greeted by Chandra from The Allen Lewis Agency, the brilliant planner behind this unforgettable event.
The space was transformed into an immersive Lion King-inspired experience—rich amber, red, and golden hues illuminated the three-story venue, creating a warm, regal atmosphere that perfectly set the stage for the night.
Honoring Baltimore’s rich culinary scene, Class Act Caterers crafted a menu of Baltimore-inspired dishes and decadent desserts, offering guests a taste of the city before heading into the show. Before the performance, we captured stunning portraits of all Divine Nine members, culminating in a powerful group photo that embodied the unity, strength, and generational legacy of Black Greek organizations.
The Lion King Musical: A Story That Resonates
As guests filled the seats of the Hippodrome Theatre, they were transported into the world of The Lion King, the #1 musical in the world. But for many in attendance, the production carried an even deeper meaning.
The story of The Lion King is more than just an animated classic—it’s a tale of identity, leadership, resilience, and honoring one’s ancestors. These themes deeply resonate with the HBCU and Divine Nine communities, where heritage, mentorship, and the passing down of wisdom are at the core of their traditions.
From Simba’s journey of self-discovery to Mufasa’s teachings on legacy, the musical’s themes mirror the values of Black excellence and perseverance, making it the perfect production to celebrate Black History Month.
A Candid Q+A with The Lion King’s Divine Nine Cast Members
The magic didn’t stop after the final bow. Guests were treated to an exclusive Q+A panel featuring Divine Nine members from The Lion King cast—a rare opportunity to hear directly from the talented Black performers bringing this story to life.
They shared their journeys in the world of Broadway and national touring, giving us insight into the hard work, dedication, and sacrifices it takes to be part of such an iconic production. The panelists spoke about representation in the arts, the responsibility of storytelling, and how being in The Lion King allows them to showcase Black culture and history on one of the biggest stages in the world.
Their experiences reflected the power of perseverance, passion, and purpose—a message that resonated deeply with the HBCU students, alumni, and Divine Nine members in attendance.
Capturing a Night to Remember

Documenting this special HBCU & Divine Nine Night with Disney Theatrical Group was an absolute honor. Events like these remind us why we do what we do—not just capturing moments, but preserving history, legacy, and love through our lens.
We left the night feeling deeply inspired, and we know this event left an impact on every guest who attended.
