The first email I actually read when I got back to the states was from Catalyst Wedding Co and it spoke of the importance of inclusion and representation in the wedding industry and supporting figures that are not always flaunted in the mainstream... like brides and grooms of particular color, size, ethnicities or sexual orientation.
As a 2014 bride I remember searching the web and wedding shows for brides that resemble me and found little to few. I remember how that impacted my decision making when planning a wedding and I want something better for future brides.
Now, as a black female wedding photographer, I'm in a position where I can serve and promote brides who may not exactly fit into that mainstream prototype so that all brides (and grooms) can share their love story with an audience who may be looking for exactly what they're doing. I'm also in a position to represent myself and others like me. I'm able to connect with other creatives who are interested in growing in the realm of wedding photography and videography, as well as, motivating each other to leap over similar hurdles that we face and shattering glass ceilings that get in the way.
