Last Sunday, the arts community in Maryland witnessed something truly magical. Governor Wes Moore officially proclaimed it “Phantom of the Opera Day,” and the celebration continued in grand, unforgettable fashion at the M&T Bank Exchange in Baltimore.
The moment we walked in, the ballroom felt like stepping into another world — a three-story jewel box washed in deep magenta light. DJ Sal Flip kept the night alive, spinning music from the original 1988 Phantom organ and filling the air with nostalgia, drama, and pure theatrical electricity. Guests drifted through the space wearing masks, gowns, and the kind of joy you can feel across a room. Savory bites and elegant desserts — including the cutest Phantom-inspired cupcakes — were prepared by the always-impressive Zeffert & Gold.
After their final performance of the night, the cast made their way from the Hippodrome Theatre straight into the celebration. Still glowing under the afterlight of the stage, they entered the ballroom to cheers from colleagues, friends, and family. It was a beautiful thing to witness — the kind of joy, relief, and camaraderie that only a “Phantom of the Opera Day” celebration can bring.
As photographers, we were in heaven. A massive step-and-repeat stretched across the room, inviting the entire cast to come together in one epic portrait — a moment of unity rarely captured on such a grand scale. Everywhere we turned, something cinematic was unfolding: laughter, reunions, tender embraces, and perfectly composed pockets of emotion lit by that signature magenta glow.
We had the honor of capturing both photography and videography throughout the evening, and the views did not disappoint. This was Baltimore’s theater community at its finest — vibrant, passionate, and overflowing with artistry.
If you missed Phantom of the Opera during its Baltimore run, we highly recommend catching the tour in another city. This cast is truly remarkable — a masterful production and an experience you won’t soon forget.
Thank you to the phenomenal team behind this event for inviting us to document such a meaningful, joy-filled night.
This one was truly for the books.
Love Deeply,
Megan + Garrett Pitts
