A business owners, we know it’s easy to get caught up in the technical side of things. As a wedding photographer, we wear many different hats to keep our business afloat… marketer, accountant, social media manager, customer service representative and public relations specialist, all of that! On top of actually shooting a wedding and spending hours editing. There’s so much that comes with being a wedding photographer and all of the hats that we wear are necessary to keep doing what we love to do. Balancing all that with a personal life… it’s understandable when we meet those burn-out moments. So that’s why it’s super important to take some time to reconnect to your creativity. One way we get to do this through our Styled Shoots.
What’s a Styled Shoot?
A styled shoot is a photoshoot that is stylized to a particular theme. We use a mood board to organize our thoughts and to give vendors an idea of the direction we want to go on before we include them to be a part of the creative team. We try to include as many vendors and creative aspects as we can to make the shoot as magical as possible. We also try our best to personalize to make it feel like a real wedding.
There’s a whole course we could make to show exactly how its done but with that being said it is a long creative process that usually spans over months. Because it is such a long process we make sure that the content that we’re creating aligns with our values and goals. So for one, we love showcasing brides and grooms who don’t normally fit into the cookie cutter mainstream wedding industry. We love showing couples of different sizes, complexions, sexual orientation and ethnic backgrounds. So that when similar couples are looking for wedding inspiration on google, their search doesn’t come up empty (been there before with my own wedding and it’s not a great feeling)
This particular shoot didn’t take too long to put together and honestly, we really cant take any credit for putting it together. Kate, the owner of Haven Street Ballroom, hosted and organized the day, even inviting adoptable pups to be taken to furever home! In turn we came to stretch our creativity and share some tips with another photographer. Similar to what we did at our last styled shoot!
In 2020 we’re definitely going to start doing more of this opportunity to more photographers to help stretch their creativity and to take photos of couples who aren’t normally featured in the wedding industries spotlight.
