A few of my favorite clients turned 40 this year
and since it’s not best time to throw a big soiree to celebrate, Krista decided to throw herself a fancy dinner party to commemorate this monumental milestone and trust me, she went all out!
She adorned herself in her favorite Chanel scent, slipped into a hot red dress and finished her look with a pair of peep-toe Louboutin pumps. She took time to pour into herself and to make sure that she looked as good as she felt that day. She even had a little tea-time while she touched up her make-up while her creative team ensured that all of her details were in perfect place for photos.
Earlier that night
She set her table (she’s an amazing florist by the way) with beautiful florals and table-wear. we first met Krista at a bridal show and were absolutely blown away by her talents as a florist and wedding planner so we just knew her birthday shoot would be beautiful but we weren’t expecting this masterpiece!
What She had to Say About her Session…
“So much happened in my 30s. But when my husband passed away a few years ago, I was forced to grow up. We had been together since I was 23 years old (14 years). We grew together but we also depended on each other. Once he was gone I had to figure it out! And quickly because I have young ones watching. I was 37 then. Most would think "you're grown " but in so many ways i wasn't. Now, here I was navigating this new normal. A few months ago I thought on all that I'd accomplished over the past 2 plus year & said "wow this is the 1st time in my life that I actually feel grown". So I reached out to Candice with this thought in my mind. I wanted a photo shoot reflective of this milestone... this coming of age. She listened, She took notes and She spoke. Together we now had a vision! From there I selected women who were also reflective of this vision. They all, including Candice excude womanhood, grace and class. So my photoshoot says I've arrived (at adulthood/ at womanhood) . I'm a phenomenal woman and I'm ready to take my place and stand on that.”
We think Krista and her creative team did a masterful job of pulling all of these details together! The execution of this shoot was more than any one of us could have hoped for and we just couldn’t wait to share these with you to help inspire and encourage you to celebrate yourself. We thought this would be the best time to do it at a time where so many people are having a bleak outlook on life, we are here to encourage to find joy in yourself and share it with others. Love Deeply.

This is yet another sign for this 30-something girl to embrace aging gracefully with humble pride and dignity. I love seeing women celebrate themselves. This is something that black women need to see more of. Because we are truly worthy o being celebrated. Especially in 2020 when our job duties have doubled and in some cases tripled. We are living through a period of time that the world has never seen before and our lives deserve to be recognized and recorded. It deserves to be documented so that we can share our experience to future generations, letting them know that we not only lived but thrived through a time where it seemed impossible.
If you’re interested in booking your session with a relatable 30-something old female photographer. I’m happy to welcome you to thrive in front of my lens.
