Being a Husband and Wife Wedding Photography Team,
we get some of the same questions a lot. One of them being, What’s it like living with a Professional Photographer? and honestly, the answer is not what you would expect from us. We’re not walking around the house all day taking photos or recording…we don’t even have that many photos of us around the house, in fact the most pictures we have in our home are on our refrigerator lol and it’s just a collage of cellphone photos (and a few professional) we’ve collected over time with our family, friends and even some of our clients.
When you become a professional photographer, your view on photos shifts.
It’s work. It’s actual hard work. It takes energy, organizational skills and precious time. And when you have 20+ clients a year, they become your priority and you can forget how important it is to take photos of your little family and unfortunately we’re very guilty of this. We have THOUSANDS of photos of others and just a few of us.
When my mom passed and I got pregnant in 2018, I decided to put an end to that. I told myself that even if I need to Hire Myself, we WILL have more photos of this family. I now make it a priority. My daughter deserves that. So now we are intentional with taking not just cellphone photos of ourselves :) and that feels amazing. I have to legitimately plan and schedule it out as if I was a client so that it really gets done. That’s my hack, treat yourself like you would a client and I always love the outcome.
So Just a message to whoever is reading this…
Whether you’re a professional photographer or not. You and your family deserve professional photos. Something that shows your life in all of it’s beautiful detail. Beyond selfies with the beauty filter. Stop making excuses and make it happen.
Love Deeply,
