A couple of weeks before I (Megan) gave birth we hosted our biggest styled shoot yet! We’ve been putting together styled shoots since 2015 but this one, I knew, needed to be different. I needed it to be bigger and better than ever! Because it was like my last HOORAH! before baby. So I started putting things in order back in March. (I wont bore you with the details..this time)
Talk about a long time in the making
As time grew nearer, my pregnancy started to grow more and more complicated. To the point where I was going to the doctors 3 times a week. Balancing this shoot, my actual business and my personal life started to take more effort than I originally thought. I had a lot riding on this shoot (a lot of vendors entrusted me with their services for that day) and it broke my hearted thinking that at any moment I may not be able to make it. So I thought to myself “How can ensure that this will happen with or without me? How can I make this benefit more people? How can I add value to everyone involved?” So I did something that I wish I would have thought of sooner… I decided to open it up to a few select photographers to join in.
The interested and feedback from that was outstanding!
I had 6 other photographers join us on that day along with 17 other vendors and 4 models! Those who came had a chance to network with other wedding pros, discuss goals and create images for their portfolio. Everyone tagged each other in their instagram stories and even captured some behind the scene moments of everyone working hard. Each one of our vendors I would choose for my very own wedding (if I were doing it all over again) and the point of it all is to give more exposure to these pros (and get published by that’s a whole other post) At the end of the night, Garrett and I had this great feeling. Like we just stepped into a new purpose. WE instantly started brainstorming on ways we could make this even better in the future.
It was just so great seeing everybody work so fluidly together. Planning a styled shoot is a lot of hard work that sometimes just doesn’t pan out. I’m not saying that the day was perfect but It was wonderful having everyone who wanted to excel their business really show up and be present in the moment here.
When I mentioned this to my new friend, Natarsha Wright, she said “girl, you should make this into a workshop!” So we took constructive feedback from those who came and are now constructing a workshop for wedding pros to join in for the future!
