Stepping Out

Me hard at work!

My only regret is making verbal excuses of why I couldn’t do it and mentally telling myself that “I Can’t”.  I’ve lived in the doubtful world of “I Can’t” for too many years, now I’ve awakened and know that I Can.

For years, I’ve watched other photographers with envious eyes when I’m at events or watching YouTube (I watch A LOT of YouTube). I remember observing from afar and thinking of actions, techniques and shots that I would do differently if I had the opportunity to be in their position. I remember imagining what the images would look like, how I could make them artistically and authentically unique and how I would deliver them to my client to make them smile.

“I could do that!” is what I would say but at that time I never had any concrete confidence in that belief. It took me a while to build the confidence to step out of my comfort zone to chase a dream. When I realized that I was the main person standing in my way of doing something that I genuinely wanted to do, I made the commitment to change. I realized that I had to get uncomfortable in order to grow and that meant that I had to hear some negative comments, ignore judgmental side-eye glances, deal with a lot of rejection and study my craft hardcore. Through seminars, books, research and lots of hands-on practice I feel myself getting consistently better, even though I’m not where I wish to be, I’m getting closer everyday.

I’m lucky enough to have a partner who shares this passion and growth with me and blessed to know some awesome people who constantly support and encourage us to do more of what we love to do. “Greatness is born outside of your comfort zone” and if that means we have to face some struggles to reach our goals, bring it on! We accept the challenge.

Look at Garrett doing his thang!.....yum!
