Breaking Excuses
Breaking Excuses
The hardest part of making a dream come true is getting started. We allow ourselves to create excuses to delay our progress when it comes to our dreamful aspirations. Granted these excuses are good ones! Well… at least mine were/are.
Excuses…
- “It’s not making any money, but in fact it’s taking money away from me.”
- “It’s not the right time.”
- “I have a full-time job/I am in school. I just don’t have time for this!”
- “I could be doing something more lucrative with my time and money.”
- “Will anybody even care?”
All of these excuses are great, but guess what? At the end of every day when you go to bed these powerful excuses get undressed and are just excuses. Just excuses that got in the way of something potentially magnificent. Now, that day is gone- never to be seen again, and you let that excuse keep you a day away from making your dreams come true. You awake in the morning and that excuse is all dressed up and still waiting for you to pick it up and carry it around with you all day. Excuses are vicious little monsters with dangerous procrastinating abilities that will hold you down day after day, but they can be beaten by being ignored or, at least, pushed aside for the time being.
If your dream is truly your passion, than when you sit back and think about it, why would any of these excuses even apply to you?
Passion
[pash-uh n] : Strong or extravagant fondness, enthusiasm, or desire for anything. a strong or extravagant fondness, enthusiasm, or desire for something.
Passion does not come cheap. It just doesn’t. Don’t be cheap; anything worth doing deserves to be done well, if this means putting in a little extra time and dollar, than so be it. Take the time to study your craft, take your money to capitalize your ideas and use your brain to make it all work together! You should be able to look at your final product with pride each and every time.
Break Down Your Excuses
“It’s not making any money.” Is it making you happy? Happiness is now your currency. Now use it. Use it not only for yourself but also to help/benefit others. Be benevolent in what you do, not only does it feel good, but others really appreciate it and it’s something that’s greatly needed in this world. When it gets to the point where it’s taking more money than you can afford to keep your dream afloat find a way to capitalize what you’re good at it.
“It’s not the right time.” When IS the right time? Start Now! You’re going to wish you had (trust me). You’re days are numbered here, make the most out of each day, even if you can only devote an hour or a few minutes to your craft, just do it. Oh, and I bet you can’t just spend “a few minutes” on that project. Why? Because your passion is actually fun! It’s something that you enjoy doing. So just do it! (Nike plug)
“I have a full-time job/ I am in school.” Even better! I wish I had started while in school. Having a full-time job or being in school gives you the fantastic opportunity to network and share your experiences of bringing your dream to life with others. Share your experiences with others, they may want to get involved and prove themselves to be a valuable asset to your future. Stay focused on your responsibilities but be sure to make time for yourself.
“I could be doing something more lucrative with my time and money.” Oh really? Well by all means manage your time correctly but do not underestimate the return that your own business can bring you. By investing in yourself, you can create your own income and save time as well as energy by “going to work” doing something that you love to do.
“Will anybody even care?” Do you care if they care? Or are you doing this for yourself? You should be doing something that genuinely makes you happy. Your concern should not be focused on the opinions of others; but rather, the joy of fulfillment. That joy of fulfillment is the result of creating your own brand, inventing and perfecting your own style, investing your time as well as your money and transforming it all into something magical. If you can stick to that- stick to making your own self happy and proud of something that you created than somebody will notice and yes, They Will Care.
